Pet Behaviour While on Holiday – Labrador Tips

9 May, 2017 YorkieAdmin Leave a Comment

Pet behaviour away from the home can sometimes be difficult to control. Yorkies can get excited around new people so be prepared for a range of reactions.

When travelling with your Yorkie it is very easy to make those around you uncomfortable. Even those who do not like big dogs may find the energy of a Yorkshire Terrier a bit overwhelming. Dog lovers may find it appauling that some people do not like dogs but it does happen.

The last thing you want in a hotel or in an area of the resort your staying at is someone causing a fuss about your dog and demanding that it be kept in its room.

Although this is unlikely to happen it is best to be prepared so that there is less chance of it happening. Even if your dog is superbly behaved and is great around people, and especially children, don’t be fooled by thinking that others will take your word for it. To keep everyone calm and relaxed it is always a good idea to have your dog leashed.

By keeping your dog leashed not only will you have those around you feeling a lot more comfortable but you wil also have your dog under control. This is a lot more important than you may originally think. Being in new and interesting surroundings may get your Yorkie intrigued. It may want to begin investigating the surrounding area.

When in the hotel room or anywhere else for that matter provide your Yorkie with food and drink on a tiled surface. This way any mess will be easy to clean up and you won’t be paying for new carpets!

Nearly all hotels do not allow pets in the dining area because of hygiene issues. This is perfectly understandable and you should leave your Yorkie in the hotel room with plenty of toys to keep itself company. Some hotels may even be against having pets in some of its public areas. This is usually to avoid any conflict between guests who like and dislike pets.

So, when you go away with your dog get in touch with the hotel and make sure it is a pet friendly hotel. Some hotels have special packages for pets and will cater for a number of things. It is definately a good idea to check things out.
