Yorkie Chewing Her Feet

Question

What does it mean when she keeps chewing her feet?

thankyou

Answer

Is this something that your yorkie has just started?

It sounds like some sort of allergy. Has there been any change in the food you give her or possibly in any of the cleaning products you use around the house?

If it is allergies I would suggest asking a vet as she might need some medication or they might give you some advice on the foods you should feed her.

    Allergy

Definitely an allergy to food, treats, carpet cleaners, shampoo’s and powders. However, it is best to take your Yorkie to the Vet.

    BITE PAWS

    Hi,
My Yorkie is 7 years old and has been doing this for five plus years, on and off, and through many vet visits. I have done everything, change food, shampoo, detergent, etc. After her being VERY sick and having a hospital stay, the doctors extensive testing and x-rays showed it is an allergy to her own yeast production in her own body. This cost me $3,500. She usually also starts to scratch her ear. My vet gives me a supply of Temeril. Half tablet twice a day for five days. This does the trick. Also amoxcillian as needed. And this is how we keep it under control. Something to be aware of is red blotches on her stomach and chest. This is when she got really sick and uncomfortable and itchy – this only happened once and is when she went into the emergency hospital and they did all this testing, even though I had her at our local vet to check for FIVE consecutive days. I am sorry this is so detailed, but it took me soooo long to find out what the problem was untill she almost died.

My little Vida is fine, and I just keep aware of when she bites her toes and paws, knowing it is her overly abundant yeast production, then I give her meds for 5 days, and she is fine. She is a playfull, loving, happy “Little One”, and I love her so much. Your “Little One” will be fine too!

I hope this helps you. (I have never written to a question before)

    God Bless,
    Tiffany

    hmmmm

My 6 yr old toy yorkie just started this now so I came to the web looking for an answer. Thank you for all the responses. I just gave her one of those Greenies chews and I am not even sure where it is at the moment. I think she hid it. But now I wonder if she may be allergic to it.

    Chews feet

If your Yorkie runs around in the grass it could be getting mosquito bites on its paws. We live in Florida, and our little Yorkie gets bit quite often. Treat your yard wirh a pet friendly green pest control.

    Lily Chews Feet too!

Thank you for all the advice. My 5 yr. old darlin’ chews her feet constantly. She has had skin allergy problems in the past treated with Prednisone–sparingly. Am going to ask my Vet about the Temeril–I think that was the name–for over production of yeast in her system. Thanks you again and it is sure worth a try.
