Yorkie Size

20 April, 2017 By YorkieAdmin 10 Comments

Question

My yorkie weighs about 14 lbs. Is this normal?

Answer

The average weight for a yorkie is 6-7 lbs. Some of my readers have told me that their yorkies weigh 9 or 10 lbs. 14 lbs does sound a bit too much for a yorkie. How old is he?

My friend Linda has 2 Yokeis Louie is 15 lbs and Oliver is 14 lbs. They are big boys………. Honestly, I have never seen such large Yorkies. Very unusual to that particularly in that breed.

    Molly

My Molly weighs about 13 pounds. We never thought she would grow so much, but she’s great, funny, active and very loving.

    Yorkie size

I was told that originally, Yorkies were used as work dogs in England. Their job was to find rats or other rodents in farms. They were not as tiny as we know them today. Their original weight was about 10 or 12 pounds.

Breeders today have shrunken the race, which leads to a lot of genetic diseases.
Bigger yorkies are more resilient and healthy than tiny ones.

I have a 3 months old yorkie named Halo, whom I love to death, she weighs about 7 lbs. and 17 inches long. Some people say she’s probably mixed with something else. Is she normal? Can someone please let me know if she’s going to be bigger once she gets old.

Hi, My name is Roy from Atlanta. I have two Yorkie Males. Solomon and Samson. Solomon is 16lb, 4 years old and Samson not quite 2 years old until June of this year, weighing 12lbs. Their parents are the same, weighing 4 and 6lbs. They have had large males born according to my Breeder. They are very intelligent and Smart. They both love carrots and peanut butter busy bones. That’s their favorite treats. They eat only once a day, drinking lots of water. They both are not continuL small dog barkers. Solomon barks only, if he, wants to go out. Samson only barks if, someone comes to the door. Solomon is strong and has big bones according to the Vet. Samson has jets and can Jump pretty darn high. He has no fear. They both understands every word. They both love the Ladies. They are my buddies. Love them both dearly. Look forward to play and talk to them. I could not trust anybody else to care for them. One more thing, they love to dress up.

Our Yorker weights in at 13.4 lbs. She will be 3 in June. We were told from the breeder that she would only get 8 – 10lbs at the most. Like, WTH? My first dog and wanted a little dog but got a Michael a Jordan dog instead. LOL! But she is the sweetest and so loving, we love her so much.
