Question
Good day.
We would appreciate some advice.
Our yorkie eats in the morning but when we get home after work she vomits up the food (it looks like it has not been digested).
We are giving her chicken and rice.
Also when she goes to the toilet, her stools look like they have some blood in them.
We have taken her to the vet and he says she is ok.
Are we over feeding her? How much should we feed her, she is 3?
Thanks for the fantastic site.
Regards.
Answer
Hi Michael, sorry for the delay in replying and thank you for the kind words about my website 🙂
I am just wondering how much chicken and rice you feed your yorkie in the morning?
First of all I would advise reading about homemade dog food so that you can learn how much protein, carbohydrates and fat is needed.
Please also read about the various foods that are dangerous to dogs, as some things like onions or garlic can’t be eaten by dogs.
I think that half a cup in the morning and another half cup in the evening should be more than enough for your yorkie. That is what our Harry eats.
However, if you put down half a cup in the morning and she doesn’t eat it all, take away what is left, do not leave it out on the floor and give a little bit less at night.
If she leaves anything after 15mins give or take it is too much for her.
Just watch her carefully and try to see what amounts are right for her, every dog is different.

Yorkie
I had a very similar experience with my baby.
The Vet prescribed Reglan (med) to slow down the digestion and pass it through properly.
This was only for a short period of time because you don’t want their little bodies to become use to/immune to the Reglan.
Also, as suggested by Melanie (Bless her for this wonderful site) smaller portions of food each time.
I had to give my Yorkie 3 to 4 portions a day. A half cup morning and night is a great start.
The blood in the stool is not exactly OK, he really should give you an antibiotic for that.
That is my experience and it makes them feel so much better. I am not a vet, but rather an animal lover and loved my precious baby for 15 1/2 years. Although she was 16 1/2 when my baby passed 1 month ago. I had great success……….
Some Yorkies are known to have little upset stomachs, so we find ways to make them better.
They are so worth it, I miss my baby………… my heart hurts.

Thank you!
I am so sorry to hear about your loss, I know that must hurt very much.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. I hope this will help all our other readers experiencing something similiar.
I do not consider myself an expert, I have only my experiences with my yorkie to share, which is why I appreciate everyone who shares their own experiences. Together we can add a wealth of information for all yorkie owners.
Thank you for the kind words regarding my site.
