Herbal Flea Control

8 May, 2017 YorkieAdmin Leave a Comment

Many times dog owners will prefer herbal flea control rather than using a chemical based product.

The best herbal flea control for your dog will be using eucalyptus.

Eucalyptus has many properties as an herbal medicine, but in this case we are interested in its insect repellent properties. It is specifically useful for repelling mosquitoes and fleas.

By using eucalyptus around your house, for example in your in your furniture, you will kill fleas and more importantly their eggs.

NB: Eucalyptus can be toxic for dogs, so never place directly on your pet, put in areas they cannot get to, such as under your carpet!

Make your own Herbal Flea Dip

By using a simple combination of rosemary leaves and lemon juice you can also effectively rinse off your dogs fleas!

Use about a half cup of rosemary leaves to 2 cups of boiling water.  Leave this to cool overnight and when morning comes strain the liquid.  When all the rosemary leaves are removed combine with warm water and 1/3 cup of lemon juice.

You can use this mixture to rinse your dog in.

Your Herb Garden

If you grow plants, it would be worth looking into growing lavender and mint.

Both these herbs are non-toxic to animals and will repel dog fleas.

If you already grow lavender try drying a small amount of the flowers and place them in your dog bed.

The mint must also be dried and then can be used just about anywhere in the house.  Try using it in your dogs bed, on your sofa, under your carpets and in your furniture.

Having mint or lavender around the house is great, they have soothing properties and they will also leave a lovely fragrance, add this on to their herbal flea control properties and you have a winning formula!

Give it a try and let us know how your progress in the fight to have a flea free home goes!
