In memory of a sweet yorkshire terrier Mandy

This email was written in by one of our readers and she has kindly agreed to let us share her story.

‘thank you for enlightening me on the lifespan of yorkies.I had to put one down in June and she would have been 14 in Sept. I have 2 others (all related) and one will be 13 in Feb. and the other 12 in June.

You made me feel so much better since I read what you printed because I have felt so guilty and remorseful since that horrible decision. She had heart failure, heart disease and collapsing trachea and after spending the night at the vet would not eat for the next 8 days and vomited on meds. I got a second opinion and that was his decision-to end her suffering.

You are correct in saying that they are very high maintenance dogs and need the vets a lot. I will tell you that I feel no other pet could love you as much as this breed does.

I am not looking forward to the end of the other two but no other dog has ever gotten any more love for so many years as my three.

I appreciate you and thank you so much.’

I guess the moral of the story is never feel guilty if you have your yorkies best interests at heart. Sometimes the kindest thing to do is to let them go…
